Oss and Ox at Imagine Watford and in Norwich

June and July 2014 saw The Oss and Ox performances. With a company of eight performers-dancers, musicians and puppeteers, it was a wonderful set of performances which miraculously escaped the rain!
The theme of English and Brazilian folklore brought a reconfigured traditional event into the heart of the town’s festivities. Music by Adriano Adewale with drumming, flute and accordion brought vibrancy as the two giant animals battled it out in the streets. The two dancers – one English one Brazilian – leapt and cavorted among the animals with a ‘jig’ competition and children joined in the dance to create a further burst of energy. The animals appeared to die, were briefly lamented with sweet melodies, but were then resurrected by lively cries of Oss Oss Oss! and Boi! They surged back to life to the drum beats and lively dancing to process on their way as approachable and friendly beasts for the crowd to follow.
